It looks like the affects of sins of the fathers seem to go down four generations in the scriptures, and for a generation to rid themselves, they must be familiar with the past, and not repeat the sins of the fathers.
It's an interesting note.

This principle makes me think of the doctrine of consecration. Our actions affect others around us. If we were consecrated, all would be perfect, but when we are not we can cause negative affects to those around us. No wonder the Lord wants us all to covenant to Him in order to protect all of our children, children's children, etc. Ultimately, as we become like God, our PERFECT actions will benefit our spirit children.
